On this day, inside the hallowed walls of EMI Studios—now Abbey Road—the Beatles completed Rubber Soul, an album that would mark a profound turning point in their artistic journey and in the evolution of the LP itself. In October 1965, we started to record the album. Things were changing. The direction was moving away from the poppy stuff like ‘Thank You Girl’, ‘From Me To You’ and ‘She Loves You’. The early material was directly relating to our fans, saying, ‘Please buy this record,’ but now we’d come to a point where we thought, ‘We’ve done that. Rubber Soul is the sixth studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. It was released on 3 December 1965 in the United Kingdom on EMI 's Parlophone label, accompanied by the non-album double A-side single We Can Work It Out / Day Tripper. Released on this day in 1965, Rubber Soul turned the Beatles into the innovative pop heroes we’ve always remembered them as. Rubber Soul marks a transformative shift for The Beatles, departing from their pop roots to embrace a mature, experimental sound. They aren't there yet, but the plot had thickened -- and Rubber Soul is the first chapter of Act II, the very best part of the story.” Rubber Soul, released on December 3, 1965, was the Beatles’ first release not to feature their name on the album’s cover, an uncommon strategy in late 1965. On December 3, 1965, The Beatles release their sixth studio album, Rubber Soul accompanied by their double A singles release of We Can Work It Out / Day Tripper also released on the same day. Rubber Soul was the pot album, and Revolver was acid. I mean, we weren't all stoned making Rubber Soul, because in those days we couldn't work on pot. I’d never heard a collection of songs that were all that good before. It’s like a collection of folk songs, and they’re all just really, really great songs. And not just about love. Strictly speaking, the fourteen songs required for the “Rubber Soul” album, along with “ We Can Work It Out ” and “ Day Tripper,” which appeared on their next single, were recorded in approximately four weeks (October 12th to November 11th, 1965). Rubber Soul was another album for Christmas - released on 3rd December, 1965 just two weeks after final mixing had taken place. Following the release of their previous album The Beatles had undertaken a momentous tour of the USA and Canada including a record breaking appearance at New York's famous Shea Stadium.
